Yew Chung International School

(Jointly organized with YewChung Arts & Language Centre)

This is a fully-integrated science and mathematics program incorporating Life, Physical, Earth and Space Sciences, interspersed with mathematical activities using concrete materials that lead to abstract understandings. Our young learners will journey each week into the natural world around us. Through exploring their environment, a touch, a smell, or some physical contact will eventually become an idea as the intellect creates abstraction through the senses.

Our toddlers will spend time in hands-on open-ended activities to explore magnets, light, color and physical properties. As children are especially fascinated with their bodies, we will have special units of the human body every week. Water, one of children’s favorite past time, will be a part of each weekly program. Our young children will observe animals including birds, insects, and reptiles, as well as parts of plants. Real specimens will be used as much as possible and we will help children learn respect for and care of all living things. They will also investigate our globe of land and water. Counting shells, stones, objects, and rods of graduating lengths will be used to give children a sensorial “feel” for numerical properties. Young children will also be exposed to activities to develop their gross and fine motor skills.

本課程綜合各種科學和數學，包括生物學，物理，地理和天文學等，透過數理的活動和遊戲，並利用不同的教材來促進深層一點的理解。學生們會進入一個探究自然世界的旅程。通過探索身處的環境，任何接觸，氣味，或身體上的觸碰都能從體驗刺激思考，再轉化成抽象的概念。

小朋友們會透過各類型的親身體驗，去探索磁石，光，色彩和其他物質的特性。我們都會介紹人體不同的部份，因為小朋友們都對自己的身體特別好奇。由於我們知道水是他們最喜愛的玩具之一，因此水亦會是課程的一部份。他們會有機會觀察各式各樣的動物包括雀鳥，昆蟲，爬蟲類和植物的結構。課堂上，我們會儘量利用真正的標本，並教導學生們要尊重及愛護所有生物。為建立他們對於數目的概念，我們亦會教他們數數貝殼，石頭，大小不一的棒和其他物件。小朋友們亦會接觸到一些訓練他們肌肉協調的活動。

How do you create light? Find out how are mountains formed and valleys created. Tinker with vehicles that move with wheels. Explore a water wheel and find out how water can create energy. Peer into the lifestyles of bees and butterflies. Now I see you, now I don’t!

Can you create a rainbow? Investigate how you can move without wheels. Explore the formation of rivers, lakes and oceans. Let’s experiment to make things disappear in water and reappear again. What do snakes and snails have in common? Do you hear what I hear?
