This is a UK-wide award scheme that enables students to solve scientific problems through practical investigations. It is conferred by the British Science Association, an independent organization dedicated to the communication, appreciation and development of science. Upon attainment of such an award, students will receive recognition in their corresponding ability at an international level. This award is an invaluable asset for students contemplating overseas studies in the future and to students who seek admissions to prestigious educational institutions as it is a testimony of skills beyond pure academics.
The CREST Star Investigators scheme has five guiding principles. Each activity offers the children the opportunity to:
- Solve a relevant, science-based problem, set within a context
- Work in pairs or small groups, independently of adults
- Take part in practical, hands-on science activities
- Think and talk about science, during the activity and when sharing their ideas
- Share their ideas using a variety of media
Only high-achieving students will be admitted to this Award Program. Applicants need to have a strong science background and are fluent in English. An Admission Test will be held on 19/9 (Sat) from 3:15pm-4:15pm.
The year-long program consists of 2 terms of 11 classes. Students will be taught 14 tasks of which they need to pass at least 12 tasks to obtain the award.
CREST Star Awards是英國的科學證書課程﹐讓學生透過實驗去解決科學問題。證書是由British Association for Young Scientists(BAYS)頒授的。BAYS是一所致力推廣科學的獨立機構。這張證書對計劃到海外升學或入讀著名學府的學生很有幫助﹐因為這是一項 說明該學生具有學科以外的技能之證明。
- 本課程「少年科學星星獎」有五大指導原則:
- 在學習過程中於指定之科學範疇內解決有關的問題
- 以小組形式學習
- 親身實踐科學活動
- 透過思考、討論及分享意見去學習科學
- 以不同方式分享意見
完成評估測試後,成績超卓之學生將會被接納參與此課程。申請學生必須具備豐富科學知識及良好英語水平。評估測試將於9月19日(星期六)下午3:15—4:15舉行。
這課程為期一年,全期為22節課。學生共要通過14項以注重實踐的科學活動,並能通過其中12項,以考取證書。

Investigating Ink
Test different black pens by putting marks on filter paper and dropping water on them. Match the ink from the ransom note to one of the suspect's pen to find out who is the criminal. Use chromatography to test the colors of other pens. Use chromatography to test the food color on chocolate candies.

Super Spinners
Discover if the size and shape of rotor blades would make any difference to the way they fall. Use other kinds of paper to make the rotor blade. Find out whether different kinds of paper would make any difference to the way the rotor blades fall.
