Level 1 Math Playground (from 8 years old)

This is an educational supplement to student’s school program in addition to preparing them for level 2. Students participating in this level require a good grasp of English and analytical reasoning capabilities.  Their computation skills should be appropriate to their grade level.

Topics:

Arithmetic the Clever Way
Basic Shapes, Figures and Angles
Counting Geometric Figures
Dvisibility
Logic
Number Puzzles
Numbers and Numerals
Operations the Easy Way
Word Problems

Level 3 Math Counts (approximately from 12 years old depending on the level of the student )

This series prepares students for MathCounts State and National Rounds and AMC 10 while solidifying their skills in algebra and geometry.  This course is appropriate for students with adequate experience in mathematics problem solving.

Level 4 Math Circle (approximately from 14 years old depending on the level of the student)

This series is appropriate for students who have a command of fundamental skills in algebra and geometry.  It prepares them for AMC 10/12, International Mathematical Olympiad Hong Kong Preliminary Selection Contest and American Invitational Math Examinations (AIME).

Placement Test:

It is important that students are placed in the correct level to maximize their learning and to build up their confidence. Placement will be determined by the Placement Test which is available upon payment of the course.  The test should be taken by the student WITHOUT assistance. Call us to arrange for a test.

Levels and Assessment Tests:

We do not teach the traditional way where students learn mathematics one topic at a time.  All our problems are connected and that is why our levels are not based on grades or ages but on the abilities of the students.  Each of our problems encompasses multiple mathematic strands.  Students will use their knowledge of different strands already taught in school to solve multi-faceted problems.  Students who are more advanced in their understanding and knowledge will be challenged and stretched to come up with alternative and more sophisticated solutions to each problem.  This way of teaching will let the students find out for themselves the quickest and most accurate way of solving a problem. We will organize tests and contests every few weeks to assess the standard of each student.
