USA Girls Mathematical Olympiad Team Succeed in Math Competition

Science Workshop, co-sponsor of the 2009 USA Girls Mathematical Olympiad Team, would like to extend our warmest congratulations to the team of 7 girls who all won medals at the 2009 Girls Mathematical Olympiad in Xiamen, China (August 2009).

  • Two gold medals were won by Jing-Jing (Shiyu) Li (Cupertino High School ‘11) and Joy Zheng (Phillips Exeter Academy ‘11).
  • Three girls won silver medals: Patricia Li (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) ‘13), Carolyn Kim (Harvard University ‘13) and Elizabeth Synge (Boston University Academy ‘11).
  • Bronze medals were awarded to Ramya Rangan (Harker School '12) and Cynthia Day (Lynbrook High School ‘12).

The girls were chosen for the team from the top ranks of the female finalists in this year's U.S. Mathematical Olympiad.

This is the most ever GMO medals that the USA GMO Team has ever won!

We are very grateful to have the girls and head coach Dr. Zuming Feng share their insights and knowledge with our students in the 2009 Summer Math Strategies Program.  We look forward to continuing our association with the USA GMO and MSRI and hope to enlighten many more Hong Kong students in the future.
