2009-2010 Workshop Programs School Policy
Enrollment
1. Please complete all items on the enrollment form in CAPITAL letters in blue or black ink.
2. Each form can be used for up to two children, regardless of the number of courses selected.
3. Submission of enrollment form indicates your consent to our school policy.

Enrollment is on a first-come-first-served basis unless special admission requirements are stated. If no confirmation is received 3 days before class commencement, please call to enquire.
Tuition
1.
Due Date -Tuition for the first month of classes is payable with the submission of Enrollment Form. Thereafter; monthly tuition is due before the first day of class of that month.
2. Tuition Amount - All fees are calculated according to the published rates in the current brochure and website or the latest published amendment, if any.
3. Form of Payment - Payment may be made n cash, or by checks crossed and made payable to “Science Workshop Limited”. Post dated checks or credit cards are not accepted.
Withdrawals, Refunds and Makeup Classes
1. No refund will be made unless application for enrollment is not accepted or the course applied for is cancelled.
2. Requests for refund due to withdrawal, prior to confirmation of class commencement, will be subject to a levy of $100 for administrative fee.
3. If classes are cancelled in accordance with Education Bureau’s (EDB guideline(s) or announcement, no refund or make-up classes will be arranged.
4. Neither a replacement class nor a refund will be given to any student absent from class due to personal affairs.
5. If classes are missed because of sickness or other unforeseeable reasons, coupons will be issued and may be used according to the policy below:
a. All coupons are non-transferable.
b. All coupons issued will expire on the last school day of the current academic year. Coupons may be redeemed for attendance in any Holiday Odyssey class deemed appropriate by the parent and the facilitator Coupons may be used in lieu of cash toward the payment for any Odyssey course(s) in the Summer No more than two coupons may be used for each course.
c. No more than one coupon will be issued per month, regardless of the reason for absence.
6. No coupon will be issued for any unexcused absence, or absence without notice given before class starts.
Dismissal and Request to Withdraw
1. A student will be dismissed or requested to withdraw if
a. he or she behaves in ways that are disruptive and by the facilitator’s judgment, may infringe upon other students right to learn; and
b. he or she continues to behave in similar ways after repeated warnings.
2. If a student is dismissed or requested to withdraw because of behavioral problems no refund will be made.
3. If a student is dismissed or requested to withdraw because of behavioral problems, he or she will not be accepted into other Science Workshop classes until and unless he or she can demonstrate to our facilitator’s satisfaction, through an interview or by other means, that the behavior in question has been improved.
4. If a student’s behavior is deemed harmful to other children in class, he or she will be asked to leave immediately.  We reserve the right and sole discretion to refuse any future enrollment.
Temporary Dismissal due to Sickness
1. A student in class or going into a class, if appears sick, may be requested to go home immediately. Science Workshop reserves the right and sole discretion to dismiss or refuse admittance of a sick child for the day.
2. If a student is requested to leave because of apparent illness and within the first 20 minutes of class, he or she will be issued a coupon which may be used according to the policy described in item 4 in the “Dismissal and Request to Withdraw” section above.
Enforced Closures
1. For classes cancelled due to unexpected public health warnings, i.e. swine flu, there will be no refund.  Credit will be given on a pro-rata basis on classes cancelled and can be applied towards other science workshop classes.
2. In the event parents elect not to allow their children to attend, there will not be a full refund of course fees but credit will be given towards future Science Workshop classes.
3. Please note the definitions of “morning class” and “afternoon class” as follows:
a. A “morning class” is a class which commences between 9:00 am. to 1:00 p.m.
b. An “afternoon class” is a class which commences at or after 1:00 p.m.
4. Please note the following class arrangement when the weather conditions are severe:
a. In force at 6:15 a.m.
i. Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above; or
ii. Black Rainstorm.
> All morning classes commencing between 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. will be cancelled.  No refund or make-up classes will be arranged.
b. In force at 12 noon
i. Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above; or
ii. Black Rainstorm.
> All afternoon classes commencing at or after 1:00 p.m. will be cancelled.  No refund or make-up classes will be arranged.
c. In force suddenly while classes are in progress
i. Typhoon Signal No. 8 or above; or
ii. Black Rainstorm.
> Classes in progress will continue until normal finish time, but parents may come to collect their child at any time as needed; classes not yet commenced will be cancelled.  No refund or make-up classes will be arranged.
d. In force at 6:15 am Typhoon Signal No. 3
> All morning classes will be in session as usual.  If parents elect not to allow their children to attend, there will not be a full refund of course fees but make-up classes can be arranged.
e. In force at 11:00 a.m. Typhoon Signal No. 3
> All afternoon classes will be in session as usual.  If parents elect not to allow their children to attend, there will not be a full refund of course fees but make-up classes can be arranged.
5. For classes cancelled due to severe weather conditions, no refund or make-up classes will be arranged.
6. Students will not be notified individually.  Parents are requested to pay attention to the Hong Kong Observatory weather reports and exercise discretion in deciding whether or not to send their children to class when the weather is unstable.
Other Rules and Regulations
1. Parents and guardians are solely responsible for the safety of the students before and after class.
2. Parents are requested to wait outside the classroom while class is in progress, except for Tots classes. Our staff has the right to ask any person to leave the class.
3. The provision of courses is subject to the sole discretion of Science Workshop. We reserve the right to:
a. cancel courses if the number of applications falls below the required minimum; and
b. change the time, date, venue and facilitators of a class.
4. Science Workshop may take photos from time to time for purpose of promotion to our students and parents or the pubic at large. By signing the enrollment form, you have given us the right and sole discretion to publish die likeness (photos, images, etc.) of your child in class.
5. In case of serious accidents when immediate medial care is required, children will be sent to the nearest hospital. By signing the enrollment form you have given us your consent for us to do.
